When it comes to refugees escaping war or migrating to other countries, we sometimes hear negative stories that influence local attitudes. This can lead to resentment toward outsiders, as some locals feel that refugees disrupt the peace. But do refugees have the right to demand or expect more than what has already been provided to them?

A video recently surfaced showing some Palestinian refugees causing chaos at Wisma Transit, Kuala Lumpur. The 33-second video, shared by a local media outlet, shows Palestinians expressing anger after one of them was denied permission to stay outside Wisma Transit. A woman, along with her family, began protesting what they perceived as an “injustice” toward them.

Several individuals were seen arguing with a guard, despite his efforts to calm them down. One woman, wearing a grey hijab, released her anger by kicking a vase and verbally clashing with a guard. Another woman was seen booing while stomping her feet in defiance. The video also shows a broken vase, likely pushed over by one of the refugees during the commotion.

The incident sparked mixed reactions on Twitter. One user commented, “You’ve already been given comfortable places to live, but you still cause chaos because you’re not satisfied? If you really want to sleep outside, go sleep on the roadside.” On the other hand, some users urged Malaysians to show empathy, arguing that the refugees might be dealing with the trauma of war.

The Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters and officials from the Palestinian Embassy were notified and have taken steps to address the situation. However, the incident still raises the question: Should Malaysia continue to offer refuge to Palestinians under these conditions, or is there a need for alternative solutions that balance compassion with maintaining peace?
