Every now and then, the Pahang royal family goes viral for the most fun, silly and humble reasons. They’re known for being very friendly with the public and often take part in various activities, such as singing and dancing, as a way to feel closer to the people.
Speaking of getting involved in activities, the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and his son, Tengku Hassanal, recently went viral on social media for showing off their martial arts skills during an expedition. Here’s what happened:
As you may have seen in previous reports, the Pahang royal family are currently on their Kembara Pahang 1.0 tour, taking place from 21st to 23rd April. During the tour, Her Majesty Tunku Azizah previously went viral for cleaning up spilt cendol in her car.
This time, it’s her husband and son in the spotlight. In a video posted by TikTok user @/arbaee19 earlier this week, the Sultan and the Crown Prince were seen learning silat from an instructor during an outdoor event filled with other fun activities, including traditional games.
His Royal Highness Tengku Hassanal was then seen using a silat-style technique to break open a fruit with a wooden device. From our findings, it appears that the father-and-son duo were taking part in a game called Hencang Buah Keras. Hundreds of years ago, the game was played exclusively by the royal family. However, it was later passed down to the common people as a traditional folk game.
The video has since gone viral, racking up over 219,400 views. Netizens were delighted to see the Pahang royal family as cheerful as ever, taking part in activities with the public. Some commented that they hoped to see Tengku Hassanal properly learning the martial art, while others expressed surprise at hearing about the traditional game after such a long time.
Perhaps one day we’ll see the Crown Prince of Pahang showcase his martial arts skills in a friendly sparring match at a public event. For now, it’s simply heartening to see him enjoying himself while fulfilling his official duties.
