Influencer Andika Putera is no stranger to controversy, having evoked a debate for his comment on wanting to buy The Exchange 106. Unfortunately, his recent video on “old money aesthetic” doesn’t help to cease the mockery towards him.
Andika recently shared a video introducing his “old money club”, a community he started, now with around 300 members. For those wondering, “old money” refers to the inherited wealth of established upper-class families. However, in recent years, the term has also been used to refer to a fashion subculture that plays on sophisticated and timeless aesthetics, which include preppy elements like polo shirts and cable-knit sweaters.

It’s believed that Andika’s community focused on the latter, as the video shows the 27-year-old with several members dressed up in suits and sweaters. In the video, the group also participated in an outdoor photoshoot, which Andika claimed had captured the attention of the people around them. This video isn’t the first time the social media personality has shown an interest in old money, as he previously shared videos on dressing according to the aesthetic.
Many netizens have since reacted to the video, mocking the influencer and his community for their “cringe” content. As the “old money” term refers to individuals with generational wealth, many poked fun at Andika, saying he doesn’t deserve to be in the group due to his previous financial woes. Many also joked that Andika doesn’t possess the “aura” of a person coming from wealth, even if he chooses to dress sophisticatedly.

Interestingly, many said Andika’s “old money” aesthetic was reminiscent of the dressings of fashion personality Wak Doyok. The entrepreneur is known for his dapper style and signature tailored suits but has never claimed to follow the “old money” aesthetic. Many netizens have since mentioned Andika in Wak Doyok’s recent video, to which he responded with some snarky comments about the influencer.
While there’s nothing wrong with following a fashion subculture that you enjoy, there comes a time when we need to accept that we can’t be someone we’re not just by changing our clothes. Nevertheless, what are your thoughts on Andika’s “old money” club?
