A life without hobbies is a life not worth living. Our hobbies can help calm us down and relieve our stress and anxiety. Some people do sports as a hobby, some enjoy being creative by painting, writing, or dancing, while some love collecting items or merchandise.

A lot of young teens caught up in the Hallyu wave these days love collecting K-pop merchandise from their favourite idols. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as you’re not overspending. But some people don’t get the fun or thrill of having this type of hobby. It’s even more heartbreaking when your own family disapproves of your interests. This girl, unfortunately, had her entire collection burnt to ashes by her father.

A TikTok video posted by user @cikatienn or Cik Atien had been circulating on social media over the weekend. The (now deleted) video showed Atien filming her teenage daughter’s heartbreaking reaction to her K-pop collection being burnt. The daughter was seen crying over the fact that her father destroyed her entire collection outside of their house. We can also see her attempting to salvage what she can from the ashes.

The video was removed after receiving backlash from netizens but Twitter user @tinybamtyun reposted the video which has now received over 3 million views. Once again, it was met with negative reactions by netizens, especially K-pop fans. “Some were gifts from her friends. If you disapprove, you could’ve asked [your daughter] to sell it or give it to someone else who would want them,” captioned the Twitter user.

Netizens criticised the father’s decision to burn his daughter’s entire collection without consulting her. Some understood the father’s concerns but disagreed with his actions while others warned the original poster to not be surprised if their daughter holds a grudge against them. Even comedian Fakkah Fuzz condemned the father’s actions towards the child.

After posting the viral video, Cik Atien posted several videos on her TikTok with one of them showing the behind-the-scenes of her daughter creating her K-pop journal that eventually got burnt. Without realising that it was actually the father’s doing, some netizens accused the mother of burning the daughter’s belongings and then posting these behind-the-scenes videos as damage control.

Yesterday (Sunday, 25th September), the mother posted an apology video saying, “I’m sorry for the viral video of my daughter. It has caused many to be upset with my actions and criticised my family. I didn’t mean to expose anyone nor did I think the video will go viral. I’ve forgiven those who have condemned and slandered my family.”

Despite posting the apology video, netizens believe that it’s her daughter who deserves the apology. So far, there has been no info on the father’s side of the story, but based on a video posted back in July, Atien shared that her partner was a narcissist, indicating that the two have gone their separate ways.
