IVE member Jang Wonyoung (장원영) can’t catch a break, as she found herself receiving another round of censure, recently. This time, she was accused of being “lazy” while performing on stage with her group members.
The six-member girl group was part of the lineup of this year’s KBS Song Festival, which took place last Friday (16th December). They performed a medley of their hit singles, “Love Dive” and “After Like”, along with a dance break in between the two songs.
Following their performance, many fans began debating whether Wonyoung was giving her best performance. Some even accused her of being lazy. As seen in the video, she was the only member who didn’t flip her hair during the dance break. Netizens accused her of not giving her all.
The idol was roundly criticised for her “lack of sincerity” in her performance. To quote one commentator, “The other members were carrying out the dance step passionately. They were breaking their necks. Meanwhile, Jang Wonyoung…”
But amidst the massive amount of backlash, fans of IVE (known as DIVEs) immediately came to the defense of Wonyoung.
They explained that Wonyoung was the main host for the ceremony, which lasted for more than three hours, with three parts. In this case, they argued that she was only maintaining her hairstyle, since she still had to resume her role as the MC after her group’s performance.
Soon after that, netizens engaged in a heated debate online. Some of the highlighted comments include:
- “I don’t think it looks good because the other members are turning their heads vigorously.”
- “She seems lazy.”
- “Just leave her alone already.”
- “She could have a neck disc.”
- “They are making a big deal because Jang Won Young’s name always gets clicks.”
- “She really is the top idol these days for people to nitpick the smallest things about her.”
