Michael Wong aka Guang Liang (光良) received a warm homecoming when he held the “Lonely Planet 2.0” (今晚我不孤独2.0) world tour in Axiata Arena over the weekend. It was evident that the 53-year-old singer-songwriter was going through a ton of emotions as he connected with fellow Malaysians in the audience.
After being in the music business for approximately 3 decades, Guang Liang had contemplate retiring for good. “Every time I sing now, I feel like I’m missing something, and I don’t know when I’ll have the chance to sing again,” the Ipoh-born artist reflected out loud. No doubt, the deep connection and overwhelming support from fans have helped spurred him on.
Throughout the 3-hour concert, Guang Liang kept the focus on his music and the story he was conveying through his lyrics. In addition to the many anecdotes from his musical journey, he also recall a special memory he had with his female fan from Malaysia, who managed to watch him in concert live before sadly passing away in February.
Fans simply couldn’t get enough of Guang Liang that night. Despite having no plans for an encore, the singer relented to the crowd’s enthusiastic requests and performed “Fairy Tale”. The performer shared that this special number isn’t just catered to children but also hopes to encourage the grown ups to hold tight unto hope and belief when the days get dark.
Following the memorable night, Guang Liang took to Instagram to share which moments left a lasting impression on him as well as express his gratitude to concert organiser Star Planet. Plus, fans also got a sneak peek into some behind-the-scenes that many weren’t privy to.
