(Video) Local Model Accuses 7-Eleven Outlet Of Purposely Selling Expired Chocolates

Stores would normally restock their items once they’re sold out or have passed the expiration dates. However, things can still be overlooked and some customers have sadly paid the price. Luckily, this Malaysian model noticed that something was off about the chocolates she wanted to buy before purchasing them.

Yesterday (Monday, 25th December), Lishalliny Kanaran posted a video of an incident that took place at a 7-Eleven store on her TikTok channel. Celebrating Christmas with her family, she went to the Maxim Citylights Condominium outlet in Sentul to buy chocolates for her nieces. Much to her shock, the chocolates had already expired.

@lishalliny

As it’s Christmas Eve, while celebrating with my family, I went to @7-ELEVEn @7-Eleven Malaysia at Maxim Citylights Condominium at Sentul to buy chocolates for my nieces who I was visiting. While picking snacks, I noticed the chocolate wrappers were unusually crumpled, and upon checking the expiry date, I found one expired in September. Assuming it was an oversight, I picked another, only to find it expired in August!! I approached the cashier, who ignored my concern, and of all he wasn’t even surprised. I asked him to check again, unsure if I misread the manufacturing date. I mean, isn’t it better to clarify first? But no, he didn’t even acknowledge me. The third time I asked him to check, and he confirmed it was expired. He then tried to involve his female coworker, who conveniently busied herself when I questioned them. To my surprise, he casually said, “alaa, accidentally la.” While I was asking him, I randomly picked another chocolate from another section, and it was expired, again! All were displayed at the front, not the back. If it was unintentional like he said, why are all the expired ones at the front? It seems like they want to clear their stock by selling expired items first. When I confronted him about that, he stayed silent, and she continued acting busy. When I requested to speak to the manager, he arrogantly said, “manager sudah balik, tidur la.” I suggested involving higher authorities, or I may need to take this to social media and he responded with “kasi viral la” using hand gestures. The AUDACITY to be arrogant and avoid accountability. So, those who may not be literate supposed to jeopardize their children’s safety when buying expired edible items? Is this the situation we’re dealing with? I believe this issue needs to be addressed seriously @KKMalaysia 🇲🇾 #viral #viralmalaysia #viraltiktok #fyp #fypppp #worldofbuzz #malaysianupdate #malaysiantiktok #7eleven #7elevenmalaysia #maximcitylights #maximcitylightsentul #malaysiatiktok #viraltiktok

In the video’s caption, the actress explained that she noticed that the chocolate wrappers were unusually crumpled and upon checking the expiration dates, she discovered that they had expired back in August, September and November. “I approached the cashier, who ignored my concern, and he wasn’t even surprised. I asked him to check again, unsure if I misread the manufacturing dates,” she wrote.

The public figure asked the staff for the third time and he confirmed that the chocolates were indeed expired. The staff dismissed her concerns again saying that it was an accident and that they must’ve overlooked the dates. However, the model picked up a chocolate from another section at the front and again, she found out that they were also expired. Suspecting that the outlet wanted to clear their stocks by purposely placing the expired items in the front sections, she requested to speak to the manager.

Unfortunately, she claimed that she was arrogantly told that the manager was not in. “The AUDACITY to be arrogant and avoid accountability. So those who may not be literate are supposed to jeopardise their children’s safety when buying expired edibles? Is this the situation we’re dealing with?”. The Miss Grand Malaysia 2021 winner ended her post by saying that she has considered reporting the issue to the relevant authorities, more specifically, the Ministry of Health (MoH).

After the post went viral, many tagged 7-Eleven Malaysian and MoH in hopes that they’ll take action against the outlet for endangering the safety of customers by selling expired items. Strangely enough, some defended the convenience store and its workers, saying that this is “normal practice” and that it is the customers’ “responsibility” to double-check the items before purchasing.

7-Eleven Malaysia has yet to release a statement regarding the viral issue but we hope that they take this seriously as they could get into deep trouble if one of their outlets actually purposely sold items that were way passed their expiration dates.
