When planning a holiday, people would normally look up online to see which hotels have the best reviews before booking a stay. However, what if you booked a hotel via a travel agency app only to discover that the building had been abandoned for years?

Luckily, this netizen did not book a stay at this specific hotel but she was definitely very surprised to see that it had been left to rot after stumbling upon it one evening. Here’s why:

Earlier this week, a netizen who goes by @mischarielle on TikTok posted a video on her channel to share about an abandoned hotel in Shah Alam that was once known as the Carlton Hotel. What made this particular closed-down building so peculiar is the fact that this hotel is still being advertised on the Agoda app with no mention that it is no longer operational. The netizen went back and forth showing the advertisement on the app and the actual spooky state of the hotel.

Judging from the video, it appears that the building had been left abandoned for quite some time as the structures were seen damaged and the area is covered in tall grass and vines, not to mention the eerie atmosphere it gives off. The reason for the hotel’s closure was not specified in the video but according to a 2020 article by SelangorTV, it was temporarily closed during the Covid-19 pandemic so it’s safe to assume that the business probably didn’t survive MCO.

The TikTok post went viral with netizens being curious if the original poster actually booked to stay at the hotel that night. Some claimed that they tried and couldn’t manage to book a room at the hotel as it was “Sold Out”. Others suggested that Agoda should update their listing as there are apparently other hotels that are still being advertised but are no longer operational.

Here’s a fun fact for you: The now-abandoned Carlton Hotel was once very popular spot among Shah Alam locals as it was located right in the middle between the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre and Tesco (now known as Lotus). The location was very convenient for those who wanted to shop or go swimming at the large pool facility.

It’s sad that it had to close down.
