The entertainment industry can be gruelling, as entertainers’ schedules rarely follow the usual nine-to-five routine. Nevertheless, many don’t mind the long hours, as they’re pursuing their passion. Beyond the demanding schedules, these stars, especially newcomers, must constantly prove that this is the path they truly want to take.
Those who have been in the business for decades are often open to offering guidance but will not tolerate a lack of discipline. Actress-singer Liyana Jasmay recently revealed just how strict she can be when working with up-and-coming talents in the industry. Here’s her story:
Over the weekend, Liyana Jasmay appeared as a guest on the final episode of the “Sembang Seram” podcast, where she shared some of her experiences with the paranormal. However, one moment from the episode stood out — when she revealed that the scariest thing on set is actually her when she’s directing. “I can be quite terrifying on set. I’ve had actors who were afraid to approach me while working,” she admitted.
She went on to clarify that she only becomes a “scary” director when actors fail to perform well; otherwise, she’s fairly easy-going. “If you don’t do well, I’ll confront you like, ‘What is your problem?’ I’ll speak through the walkie-talkie, questioning you, ‘Have you got amnesia or something? Cut! Again! Cut!’ — if you keep messing up,” she added with a smile.
When the host mentioned his friend, actor Nik Rifaie’s experience of working with Liyana, the actress remarked that Nik is a great actor, but he and the rest of the cast would still get an earful if anyone underperformed. The 37-year-old then shared a terrible experience she once had working with an unnamed actor who had an attitude problem. “He was the worst. He had no respect for anyone on set, so I removed all his scenes from the final cut,” she said.
Liyana also recalled how the same actor once threatened to punch her during an argument after refusing to film a scene. “The production manager had to intervene. He apologised, but I don’t think I’ll ever forgive him for what happened. We don’t need someone like that in the industry,” she added.
