Most parents tend to choose names for their children that hold meaningful significance, often as a form of prayer or a hopeful wish for their future. In many cases, these aspirations turn into reality, with children growing up to make a meaningful impact in their respective fields.
Superstar Jackson Wang (王嘉爾/왕잭슨) is one such example. As it turns out, there’s a heartfelt reason why his parents, specifically his mother, chose his name shortly after he was born. Here’s the story:

GOT7 member Jackson Wang recently appeared on WIRED’s YouTube channel to answer some of the web’s most searched questions about himself. One of the questions that came up concerned his Chinese name, to which he replied that it is Wang Jiaer, or Wang Ka-yee in Cantonese. However, he clarified that his legal name is indeed Jackson Wang, as stated in his passport.
“I don’t go by 3 names. It’s just Jackson Wang. My mom named me Jackson because she was a fan of Michael Jackson, and she wished that her kid could sing and dance like him,” he said. That moment from the episode quickly went viral on social media, with fans commenting on how the singer’s mother had seemingly manifested his career without even realising it. Some also pointed out how humorous it was that Jackson once had to persuade his parents to let him pursue a career in entertainment rather than becoming an Olympic fencer, a decision that appeared to contradict his mother’s original hopes and the very reason she named him Jackson.

Others expressed that they, too, would’ve named their child after the King of Pop, given his legacy in the music industry. Aside from his name, fans learned more about Jackson Wang in the recent WIRED video. Which part of this episode stood out the most for you?
