Malaysian influencer Andika Putera continues to be a polarising figure on social media, with some taking interest in his “old money” lifestyle and others clowning him for it. However, he recently caught netizens’ attention with his now-infamous outfit videos.
The media personality recently shared an “Outfit Of The Day (OOTD)” video on his social media. In this new video, Andika was styled by his wife, with the highlight of the outfit being a pair of Prada sunglasses. Andika mentioned in the video that the sunglasses were from an online store and, thus, not from the official Prada store. The clip was then reposted onto Twitter by a user who goes by Bbie.
Ironically, Bbie shared the video alongside comments allegedly from Andika’s employees who exposed him for not paying their salary. However, netizens were more focused on the Prada sunglasses and the Tom Ford perfume in the video, noting that both items looked slightly off. They pointed out that an original Prada eyewear would not be packaged in plastic bags and that the Tom Ford perfume in the video had a mismatched label.
As such, many netizens believe Andika had purchased counterfeit items to fake a luxurious personality on social media. As the influencer had built a “rich man” persona on social media through his old money club, many netizens immediately called him out for using counterfeit luxury items. Most quipped that he’s “trying too hard” to fake an image, knowing he can’t afford it.
Many netizens also called back to the original tweet, criticising Andika for flaunting on social media but failing to pay his employees or contribute to their Employees Provident Fund (EPF). Others urged the affected employees to take legal action towards the influencer and his company. Andika has yet to respond to the allegations but continues to post on social media, promoting his personal branding business.
It’s worth noting that different people have different views on buying counterfeit items. However, the criticisms towards Andika are due to his online persona and history of not compensating his employees while flaunting a wealthy lifestyle. What are your thoughts on this?
