YouTuber family MangoHK大马狮家 (Malaysian Lion Family) has been living in Malaysia for over three years now since migrating from Hong Kong. For the most part, they love living in Malaysia. However, recently, they brought up one issue that has left them dissatisfied.

In a recent video, the mom and dad of the MangoHK大马狮家 family sat down to detail exactly what they couldn’t stand about living in Malaysia. As it turns out, while their quality of life here is good, the only thing marring it is our messy traffic and awful driving skills!

The dad explained that the issue had first come to his attention when an employee recently asked him for a 4-day leave. The employee explained he was going to use his time off to learn how to drive. Confused, the dad asked his employee if they were certain they could fully master driving an automatic car with only four days to learn. To his surprise, his employee confidently said yes.

Other countries like the United States require driving students to take a 30-hour practice course while Australians need at least 120 hours to earn their license, with 20 hours of night practice. In comparison, Malaysia’s 10 hours on the road seems insufficient, according to the dad. He also opined that unskilled drivers on the road would force others to accommodate them.

Additionally, the dad said he had observed Malaysian drivers habitually ignoring traffic rules. He highlighted how drivers would occasionally overtake others on double lanes and drive against traffic in a parking lot. His other pet peeve was drivers who would be on their phones while driving. “Please don’t ignore traffic rules!” he implored during the video.

While some agreed with YouTubers MangoHK大马狮家, several argued that most drivers actually got more practice than the mandated 10-hours. A few pointed out that they would also practice with their parents and some driving schools required their students to complete more hours, prior to taking the test. Others claimed the problem lay elsewhere.

“We can only blame Malaysia’s lax traffic (law) enforcement,” one commented. Another stated: “The problem with driving on Malaysian roads is not only that the driving test system is too lax and allows novices to take to the road in a short period of time, but also that both novice and experienced drivers ignore traffic rules!” A netizen agreed, adding that Malaysians’ bad driving habits and disregard for others’ safety was also to blame.

We certainly can’t deny that driving on the roads nowadays is pretty scary, especially with such reckless drivers around. Several accidents such as this police convoy crash have already made headlines just last month. Well, what do you guys think?
