While celebrities are no stranger to flaunting their wealth, some may argue there is a time and place for it. Recently, Hong Kong actor Benny Chan (陈浩民) shared a video of him visiting the temple – but netizens couldn’t help but be distracted by what he wore.
The 55-year-old actor recently shared a video of himself visiting the Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, China. Benny had suffered an injury not too long ago, which forced him to use crutches everywhere he went, even to public events. While it wasn’t confirmed, his visit to the temple may be to pray for better health and good luck.
In his video, Benny walked up a staircase at the temple grounds before stopping in front of the main prayer hall. He then held out his incense and prayed three times, as per customs, before turning to greet the camera. While his actions seemed normal, his outfit brought up some criticism from netizens as he appeared to be wearing a Louis Vuitton monogram shirt and a diamond chain necklace.
Many people believe that when visiting a place of worship like a Buddhist temple, one must wear plain clothing to appear modest and humble before the holy spirits. This belief led to some netizens questioning Benny’s choice of clothing, saying it was inappropriate to visit the temple while wearing flashy luxury items. Others even said the celeb should remove his diamond necklace before praying.
However, Benny seemed unbothered by these comments as he responded, saying, “Sincerity leads to spiritual success” as if to argue that what he wears to the temple doesn’t matter as long as he’s sincere in his prayer. On the other hand, some netizens joked about the actor’s dazzling choice of temple clothes, teasing him about the price of his outfit.
