Durian, often dubbed the King of Fruits, isn’t to everyone’s taste. While some adore its distinctive flavour, others are put off by its strong smell and texture. Either way, it’s always entertaining to watch our favourite K-pop idols react when they get their first taste of this divisive delicacy.
Although TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT)(투모로우바이투게더) have yet to visit our country and try durian for themselves, leader Soobin (수빈) recently had the chance to sample the fruit. So, what did he think of it? Let’s take a look:
As some of you may know, TXT’s Soobin hosts his own reality show titled “Faves’ Faves”, where he invites fellow idols to share their favourite things. In an upcoming episode, ZEROBASEONE (제로베이스원) member Zhang Hao (章昊/장하오) appears as a guest on the show. The idol is known for his love of durian and even had a durian-flavoured cake for his birthday, so naturally, the singer brought the fruit along for Soobin to try.
In the now-viral preview clip, the “Deja Vu” artist is seen taking a bite of the fruit—only to start gagging almost instantly. Struggling to finish the piece of durian in his mouth, the idol clung to Zhang Hao, who looked visibly surprised and concerned, for support. Fans were quick to react to the clip, with many amused by Soobin’s dramatic response to durian. Some found the moment hilarious, while others took the opportunity to share their own experiences and opinions of the King of Fruits.
Fans also pointed out that this wasn’t the first time Zhang Hao had “terrorised” other idols with his love for durian. Apparently, ZEROBASEONE fans are not safe from his durian obsession either. The vocalist once brought over 200 cups of durian to the SBS Inkigayo studio for fans to enjoy, with one of the station’s staff members even seen wearing a gas mask while preparing the treats.
We hope Soobin won’t reconsider his friendship with Zhang Hao over the durian incident, but his reaction was certainly hilarious. So, which side are you on—are you a durian lover or a hater?
