The MAMA Awards 2025 took place on 28th and 29th November 2025 (Friday and Saturday) at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium. The ceremony had previously announced that many stars, including G-Dragon (지드래곤), Super Junior (슈퍼주니어) and Chow Yun-fat (周润发), would perform and present at the two-day event. However, one Threads user recently shared that former BIGBANG (빅뱅) member, T.O.P (탑), was also initially scheduled to appear.
In the post shared earlier this week, the user claimed to be involved in coordinating artists’ arrivals in Hong Kong for the awards show. They mentioned that they saw T.O.P’s name on the list, sparking speculation that the rapper was set to appear at the event. However, since there was no official announcement about his appearance, the user suspected that T.O.P was a secret guest and would make a surprise appearance.
Of course, it’s now known that T.O.P didn’t make any appearance at the show. There were also no reports that the star was seen in Hong Kong during the weekend. Nevertheless, the Threads user did make assumptions about the 38-year-old’s rumoured participation. They even suggested that he may have planned to use the event to make his music comeback, citing G-Dragon’s MAMA 2024 performance.
The rumours have since gone viral, sparking more speculations. Some questioned the legitimacy of the claims, while others debated what T.O.P had prepared for his appearance if the show went on as initially planned. It’s worth noting that Mnet had to revise the event and setlists because some performances would be considered disrespectful given the recent tragedy. Some stars also pulled out of the event at the last minute.
