(Video) Family Caught Reserving Parking Spot At 1Utama; Scratches Mercedes After Losing The Spot

Finding parking in modern times can be hard, and keeping it can be harder. Many big malls can be a challenge to park in during peak hours, and your wallet might even take a hit. And just when you thought you found the right parking spot, it might already be “booked”.

Recently, dashcam and CCTV footage surfaced online of a family attempting to hold a parking space at 1Utama Shopping Center before moving away when a Mercedes car took the parking spot. Dissatisfied, the family were then caught scratching the vehicle after the owner left to go inside the shopping centre.

According to the footage, the incident occurred earlier this month on 16th March. Imagine the owner’s surprise upon returning to their car, only to find scratches almost all around it after shopping at 5pm. In light of this issue, the owner contacted the police and released the video in hopes of finding witnesses.

Online, however, those who witnessed the video of the issue expressed deep disappointment in the conduct of the car scratcher. Netizens voiced concerns about proper parenting and how we live in a society. Users talked about the audacity of car scratchers, such as “The parents are really good role models for their children,” and another user commented, “This is a very evil family,” and calls for the owner to seek justice. It seems the incident struck a nerve.

There was also further discussion on the state of society, “Shameful. It’s already 2025…” pointing out that such petty acts are out of fashion. Other users discussed the act’s implications and potential responses if they were in authority.

It is notable, however, that the act of “booking” a parking space is illegal and carries a fine of RM2,000 or up to 6 months of jail, in Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act 1976. It would also not be optimal to stand in the way of a 2-tonne metal box if the driver does not see you.

A family tried to block a parking spot by standing in it but failed. Later, when no one was around, they scratched the car out of frustration. The incident happened at One Utama on March 16, with dashcam and CCTV footage capturing both moments. The car owner discovered the damage an hour later and reported it to the police, sharing the footage to find witnesses.
