Recently, Malaysia witnessed an alarming surge in irresponsible behaviour by car drivers, leading to potential accidents and putting both themselves and others at risk. Unfortunately, motorcycle riders appear to be no exception when it comes to causing chaos on the roads.

Last year, an incident involving a Grab driver went viral for crashing into a car while riding cross-legged and using his phone—a clear example of poor judgement on the road. More recently, a viral video has surfaced showing a female motorcyclist recklessly filming herself while riding, drawing attention to yet another concerning trend.

The 37-second clip was posted on Twitter with the caption, “So reckless. Lives can’t be purchased from the supermarket, miss.” The video shows the rider using her phone’s front camera to film herself. Even more alarming is the dangerously close distance between her bike and the truck ahead, raising serious safety concerns.

Furthermore, the way she wore her sling bag across her back made her an easy target for snatch theft, which could lead to even more severe consequences. In addition to violating traffic laws, her actions increase the risk of accidents and jeopardise not only her safety but also that of others on the road. At the time of writing, no details have been provided regarding the location of the incident, and authorities have yet to take any action.

The video sparked a heated debate online, with many criticising the female rider for impulsively gambling with her life and disregarding the potential consequences of her actions, while some speculated that she was actually filming a TikTok live for content, further fuelling the outrage.

Adding to the discussion, commentators from Indonesia pointed out that similar incidents are common in their country, highlighting yet another strange and unfortunate similarity between the two nations.
