The year 2009 was the year Malaysia tragically lost Yasmin Ahmad, one of our most acclaimed filmmakers. She was the genius behind many masterpieces, including the fan-favourite “Sepet”, which is currently having a special limited-time rerun at Golden Screen Cinemas for its 20th anniversary.

According to reports, the director passed away after suffering from a stroke during a presentation at Sri Pentas but there was one information about her untimely death that many seemed to have forgotten over time. When the writer suddenly lost consciousness, Dato Sri Siti Nurhaliza was one of the two people who performed CPR on her to save her life. Here’s the story:

Recently, there’s been a trend on Twitter where netizens share their favourite celebrity facts. One former broadcaster joined in on the conversation and brought up the time Siti Nurhaliza tried to save Yasmin Ahmad’s life by performing CPR on her. The singer and her husband Datuk Khalid were in the same presentation room with the filmmaker when the incident happened.

This story is not at all baseless as the songstress was interviewed by reporters who arrived at the scene. “I checked her pulse and her blood pressure was extremely high at the time. So the [Media Prima] resident doctor and I took turns performing CPR until the ambulance arrived. Unfortunately, she was not responding,” the distressed artist told the media.

The story blew up on social media with many praising the “Bukan Cinta Biasa” singer for her heroic deeds. Many brought up the fact that Siti Nurhaliza was once appointed as the ambassador for the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and has provided first-aid assistance to those in need herself. One time during a show in 2000, the icon paused her performance to help an injured fan in the audience.
