Remember the legendary 2005 romance movie “Sepet,” directed by the late Yasmin Ahmad? Now you can relive the nostalgia and experience the emotions all over again in cinemas.

To commemorate Hari Kebangsaan and mark the 20th anniversary of the movie’s release, GSC Cinemas is bringing back “Sepet” for a limited time from 29th August to 8th September. The movie will be screened at selected GSC locations only, including GSC Mid Valley, GSC 1 Utama, GSC Paradigm JB, and GSC CityOne Kuching.

For those who haven’t watched “Sepet,” the movie tells the touching love story of Ah Loong, a Chinese boy, and Orked, a Malay girl. Their interracial romance is viewed as taboo by society and face numerous challenges as they navigate the complexities of cultural differences and society’s expectations. Featuring notable casts like Sharifah Amani as Orked and the late Adibah Noor as Kak Yam, who brought warmth and depth to her role, the film remains a beloved treasure that captures the essence of love and cultural harmony in Malaysia.

It’s no surprise that the motion picture, which won the Best Film category at the 18th Malaysia Film Festival in 2005, received positive reactions from Malaysian netizens. Many expressed excitement about the chance to rewatch “Sepet” and are looking forward to shedding a few tears in the cinema. Others are calling for the rescreening of more of the late Yasmin Ahmad’s masterpieces, highlighting the enduring impact of the icon’s work on Malaysian cinema.
