When a K-Pop artist goes on tour, their schedules are so often packed, leaving them little to no time to explore the city they’re in. However, ARMYs were left surprised after learning that BTS (방탄소년단) member Suga (슈가) ran a local race amid the band’s North American tour.
Earlier this week, BTS concluded their three-day concert in Stanford, California, as part of their “ARIRANG” world tour. After their final show, members RM, Jimin (지민), V (뷔) and J-Hope (제이홉) held a livestream, during which they revealed a fact about their bandmate Suga. As it turns out, the rapper secretly joined the Bay to Breakers race just before the Sunday (17th May) show.

The Bay to Breakers race is an annual 12km race in San Francisco, with the course running across the California city. In the livestream, RM mentioned that Suga, who regularly runs 10km a day, learned about the famous race and decided to enter. He revealed that the 33-year-old woke up at 6am, ran the race and then returned to Palo Alto to prepare for the band’s concert.
After learning about this fact, ARMYs started scouring through footage from the race to find a glimpse of Suga. Apparently, the idol was among the first wave of runners who took off from the starting line at 8am. As shown in now-viral clips, Suga seemingly went unnoticed by his fellow runners, dressing in a black pullover and grey shorts with a blue cap.
Fans also found his race results, which were under his real name, Min Yunki (Min Yoongi/민윤기). The results show that he finished the 12km course in 1:04:43, averaging an 8:41 min/mile pace. The idol was in the 1,022nd place overall among the finishers. However, considering he later had to perform a two-hour show, many said it was an incredible feat.

While some noted that Suga was limping a little during the Sunday concert, many said it was still impressive that he managed to run a race and perform on the same day. However, others quipped that the race is another example of the BTS members completing unexpected “side quests” during their tour, like attending a wrestling match while performing in Mexico.
It’s unclear what other “side quests” Suga and his groupmates will be up to next. However, with the “ARIRANG” tour scheduled to continue into 2027, we’re sure there are plenty of things for the boys to do while they’re on the road.
