K-Pop idol Jackson Wang  (王嘉爾/왕잭슨) has been a very busy man this year, promoting his new album “MAGIC MAN”. After an outstanding performance at the Good Vibes Weekender festival a few months ago, the singer is set to return to our shores once more for his solo concert next month. The 28-year-old has been working hard but it makes us wonder if he’s been taking care of himself as well.

People often forget that celebs, including K-pop artists, also have their own personal mental or physical health issues that they’re dealing with. Touring the world, doing interviews, and making special appearances cannot be easy for anyone. The GOT7 member recently sat down for a chat with a fellow idol to share about his mental health struggles.

Jackson Wang was recently invited to appear on fellow idol and senior Eric Nam (에릭남)’s DAEBAK SHOW where the two had a few drinks and talk about what’s been going on with the former’s life. The interview started off being light-hearted and fun before reaching a certain point where Eric asked the “100 Ways” singer to share about the breakdown he had experienced in the past after ending his contract with JYP in 2021.

The Hong Kong-born performer opened up about what led him to reach that breaking point. “Being in the industry for eight, nine years, at that point I was lost. Everything felt like a loop. Every person that I met, every word that they’d say to me, everything was like deja vu — not deja vu, but a loop,” he confessed. The GOT7 member added that he dropped everything to isolate himself from everyone, including his management.

“I was home, I was drinking by myself every day to a time that I couldn’t breathe and I told my team to just stop talking to me,” the singer recalled. He also revealed that he wanted to take some time off to focus on doing things at his own pace instead of rushing everything. During his isolation, Jackson spent most of his time drinking, writing, creating, and thus “MAGIC MAN” was born a year and a half later.

When asked about how he managed to overcome the breakdown, the K-pop idol told the DAEBAK SHOW host that he started to open up more to his producer and stylist. After realising that he’s the type of person who keeps things to himself, the singer took an effort in sharing his problems with people he trusts. “I felt, ‘Why am I blocking my whole life? Why am I trying to seek solutions myself, why am I afraid to say I’m not okay?'” he said.

Jackson Wang is still recovering from his mental health problems but he has also decided to continue to stay true to himself both personally and professionally as it has also helped him overcome the dark moments in his life. “It was as simple as that, but that just changed me in some way,” he told Eric.
