The nation was saddened by the sudden news regarding the passing of Malaysian billionaire tycoon Tan Sri Tatparanandam Ananda Krishnan a few days ago (Thursday, 28th November). As a name that was synonymous with power and wealth, many arrived to honour his unforgettable contributions.

A memorial service was held yesterday (Tuesday, 3rd November) for the late businessman. His son, Ven Ajahn Siripanyo, who became a forest monk, was spotted by a few attentive passersby when he was arriving in Malaysia to attend his father’s memorial service.

Ananda Krishnan’s son was spotted at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) clad in monk’s robes. He made the life-changing decision to become a monk back when he was only 18 years old and is known to have been practising it for over two decades at the Dtao Dum Monastery near the Thailand-Myanmar border.

Despite being the only son of one of Malaysia’s wealthiest individuals, Siripanyo also renounced his share of the $5 billion (over RM22 billion) inheritance to embrace a monastic life. Like his late father, the monk prefers to keep his life low-profile and away from the public eye.

Posted on YouTube by Free Malaysia Today, Siripanyo was also spotted queuing outside the memorial service venue to pay his final respects to his father. He was seen talking to other individuals at the venue, who came to convey their respects as well.

According to reports, the family stated in the obituary that the memorial service will be held at Jalan Berhala in Brickfields, and the public is welcome to attend to pay their final respects. However, the family hopes the service will remain low-key, and the public is advised not to send wreaths, flowers, or garlands.
