There’s nothing wrong with an innocent prank, but there are times when a simple joke can spark heated reactions. Malaysian actress Didi Astillah recently faced a slew of criticism after pranking her mother during a family dinner.
Earlier this week, Didi Astillah and her family, including sister Bella Astillah and future brother-in-law Syed Saddiq, gathered together to celebrate the birthday of the two actresses’ mother, Siti Zarina, fondly known as Eina. Initially, the celebration was a calm affair, with the entire family and some friends having dinner at a local restaurant.

Namun, cuba dileraikan Ahli Parlimen Muar yang juga tunang Bella Astillah iaitu Syed Saddiq sementara Didi pula dilihat ditegur dan ditenangkan ibunya, Siti Zarina.
However, the situation took a turn when Didi suddenly got mad at a waiter over a supposed wrong order. In a video shared on social media, the 29-year-old and the server began fighting and yelling at each other, alarming everyone in the room. Syed Saddiq even tried to de-escalate the situation by standing in between the two.
Eina also stepped in to stop the fight, immediately pushing Didi away from the waiter and telling her off in front of the crowd. As the family matriarch scolded her daughter, Didi revealed that the entire argument was a prank. The crowd then starts singing “Happy Birthday” to Eina, while her daughter embraces her as an apology for the commotion.
It’s worth noting that not everyone was aware that the fight was merely a prank, because Syed Saddiq appeared visibly confused by the whole ordeal. Bella likely didn’t know about her sister’s plan either, since she tried to stop the fight when it started getting heated. The two then awkwardly laughed together after learning Didi faked the argument.
The video has sparked mixed reactions amongst netizens. However, most of the comments were criticising Didi. Many felt that the prank was inappropriate, given that it happened in a public space. Some also argued that the family should be more careful with their actions when Syed Saddiq is with them since he’s a political figure with an image to uphold.
Neither Didi, Eina, nor Bella have responded to the backlash. However, it seems that the netizens are merely reminding the family that they are public figures who should maintain good behaviour in public.
