Local friendly neighbourhood-help Kuan Chee Heng (关志庭), or better known as Uncle Kentang, has always been much loved by the community. Known for his numerous good deeds and selfless nature, he’s helped many and is determined to help many more.
As such, it came as a shock yesterday (11th March) when a post on Uncle Kentang’s Facebook suddenly announced he had cancer! The news worried many, with netizens immediately reaching out to ask him about his health and to express their concern for him.
Yesterday afternoon, Uncle Kentang uploaded a post to his Facebook which read: “I am diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.” There had been no additional information given regarding the announcement, and nothing leading up to it either. Needless to say, it caused a great deal of worry to many.
Several expressed shock and worry over the terminal illness, others sympathised and prayed for his speedy recovery. A few speculated however that the post was not about Uncle Kentang, but one of the folks whom he was helping as he often posts for them on his socials. Well, luckily, he later confirmed to Sin Chew Daily that the person suffering from cancer was not him.
The post has since been deleted, but clearly the response to it has left an impact on Uncle Kentang as he uploaded two other posts afterwards. “When you are alive, no one will bother about you. A reality test. But when you are dying, people start to ask about you. Reality in life,” he observed. He also opined: “(It’s) what you did for others that matter most. Keep rocking till our last breath. No one will appreciate (you). Keep smiling and hold our head high.”
His words have since touched many netizens who’ve voice agreement over his wisdom. A few are still asking after him, hoping he’s alright, but from his recent postings, he’s been keeping busy. Well, we’re certainly glad Uncle Kentang is doing fine and hope he stays happy and healthy.
