Hong Kong broadcasting company has been facing a string of actors leaving, for various reasons. Unfortunately, actress Mandy Wong (黄智雯) recently joined the list.
A few days ago, TVB actress Mandy Wong revealed that she was quitting TVB. While the news saddened many, others were more concerned that her departure might convince her good friend and fellow actress Elaine Yiu (姚子羚) to leave the nest too!
On 1st December, Mandy Wong uploaded a video on her Instagram claiming it was her last day working at TVB. “At this moment, it is difficult to describe my mood in just a few words. I have so many mixed feelings…” she shared. She thanked TVB for nurturing her and her career, the producers for helping and encouraging her and her friends for all the memories they made together.
But, while Mandy did not mention her reasons for leaving TVB, netizens had their own theories for her departure. Some speculated it was due to her never winning the Best Actress Award, despite being nominated for it seven times in her 16 years career. Others merely expressed their sadness at her leaving. “It’s really sad that all the artists I know and like have left TVB,” one fan mourned.
On the other hand, many were concerned that Elaine Yiu would be the next to leave, given how close she has been to Mandy. The duo were part of the 胡说八道会 group, along with Myolie Wu (胡蓓蔚), Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Paisely Wu (胡蓓蔚), and Selena Lee (李施嬅), with half of them having left TVB already. Some suspected it might had to do with her being nominated for Best Actress in 2018 but not winning it.
Well, no one knows Elaine Yiu’s future plans for sure, but like many others, we wish Mandy Wong all the best as she figures out what’s next for her. News of her departure from TVB comes after her marriage in October.
