It’s becoming a tradition now for us to inform our readers/followers of the long weekends in the coming year (we did the same for 2016 as well as 2017).

Because who doesn’t love long weekends, right? 😉

For the rest of 2017, there are only a few more long weekends in the coming months:

  • National Day and Hari Raya Haji: 31st August 2017 – 3rd September 2017 (Thursday to Sunday)*
  • Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Maulidur Rasul): 1st December 2017 – 3rd December 2017 (Friday to Sunday)
  • Christmas: 23rd December 2017 – 25th December 2017 (Saturday to Monday)

Let’s not forget the public holidays which fall on the mid-week, which can be easily “expanded” into a long weekend if you time your leave right:

  • Awal Muharram (Maal Hijrah) – 21st September (Thursday)
  • Deepavali – 19th October (Thursday)*

*Dates shown are only preliminary and could be subject to change.

So here’s a treat for those of you who are still trying to recover from the long Hari Raya Puasa/Aidilfitri break! There will be a total of 11 long weekends in 2018 for most Malaysians, if you know how to properly use your annual leave coupled with the official public holidays.

To recap, the 11 long weekends, in conjunction with the national public holidays coupled with the usage of annual leave are:

  1. New Year’s Day – 1st January 2018 (Monday)
  2. Chinese New Year – 16th and 17th February 2018 (Friday and Saturday)
  3. Labour Day – 1st May 2018 (Tuesday)
  4. Wesak Day – 29th May 2018 (Tuesday)
  5. Hari Raya Puasa/Aidilfitri – 15th and 16th June 2018 (Friday and Saturday)
  6. National Day – 31st August 2018 (Friday)
  7. Awal Muharram – 11th September 2018 (Tuesday)
  8. Malaysia Day – 17th September 2018 (Monday) *To replace 16th September 2018 (Sunday)
  9. Deepavali – 6th November 2018 (Tuesday)
  10. Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Maulidur Rasul) – 20th November 2018 (Tuesday)
  11. Christmas – 25th December 2018 (Tuesday)

Again, some of the above dates are subject to change e.g. Hari Raya Puasa/Aidilfitri, Awal Muharram, Deepavali. But it’s good to know that we have options!

Happy vacay planning 😉
