Rumours surrounding the salary received by JDT F.C. player Arif Aiman Hanapi have been floating on the internet. Last year, we reported that the football club  paid him between RM11k – RM12k.

This time, word on the street has it that Arif’s salary has increased by more than 100%, from RM12,000 to RM25,000 per month. For those who are curious, the rumour was first brought to light by Twitter user Zulhelmi Zainal Azam.

“Arif Aiman is now receiving a new salary of RM25,000 with JDT, as compared to RM12,000 previously,” the Astro Arena reporter tweeted. He then pointed out, “In contrast to some of the local players in other teams, it is understood that some are even getting more than RM80k.” For some reason, the Twitter post was later removed by Zulhelmi after gaining traction. Not too long after that, the matter was confirmed by JDT F.C owner, Tunku Ismail Idris (or TMJ).

“Let me explain to you about the budget. Just yesterday, I gave Feroz Baharudin and Arif Aiman a raise. It came to my knowledge that Feroz only earned only ~RM10k, while Arif’s salary is less than RM25k. I’m aware that the competing teams would pay up to RM80k to RM90k (per month) to their local players,” the Crown Prince of Johor said.

“Not only that, but my import player Bergson da Silva only receives US$300,000 (~RM1.3 million) a year,” the Johor Prince said. But there are (some teams) that pay US$500,000 (RM2.2 million) a year (to their import players). So which team is spending more money?” TMJ questioned. “I allocate my budget according to the situation. I keep the expenses to a minimum because we want to sustain this team for the long run.”
