Cate Blanchett is set to play a bad ass villain in “Thor: Ragnarok”, Geek.com has confirmed.
Blanchett will be joining Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Jamie Alexander, and Mark Ruffalo as they reprise their respective roles as Thor, Loki, Lady Sif, and The Incredible Hulk in the third adventure of Thor.
In “Thor: Ragnarok”, Blanchett will portray the Asgardian Goddess of Death, Hela. Known to be one of Thor’s classic foes in the comic books, Hela with her magical strength-enhancing cloak, commands an army of dead.
Not only does Hela wield power over the dead souls of the Nine Realms, she has “the ability to destroy mortal foes and claim their souls with a single touch”. No one in their right mind would want to get on her bitchy side, except well, Thor.
If that wasn’t bad ass enough, Geek.com revealed that “Hela will make it to Asgard, where she’ll be in cahoots with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, current motives unknown”. The alliances between Hela and Loki would be a lot of fun to watch.
Thor will eventually find out about Hela and Loki teaming up and confronts the Goddess of Death. Things obviously do not go well for Thor. Not only does she banish him from Asgard, she also destroys his mighty hammer Mjolnir!
Thor will be banished to a gladiatorial planet where he is forced to fight for his life. There, he will meet The Hulk. This is where the role of Hulk comes in. The 2 will then journey on a “cosmic road trip” together.
Blanchett is no stranger to fantasy characters. Many of you may remember her as Galadriel from “The Fellowship of the Ring”. Remember the scene in the movie when she turns dark and scary the moment Frodo offered up the evil ring? That is just an indication of how awesome Blanchett will be in the role of Hela.
Ruffalo himself seems to agree with this notion when he recently let slip about Blanchett’s role. “I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work!’ She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting,” he told Indie Wire.
“Thor: Ragnarok” will smash its way into theatres on 3rd November 2017.
