“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair” has finally found its director!

IGN has confirmed that Joe Johnston, the director of “Captain America: The First Avenger”, will helm the upcoming fantasy novel-turned-movie.

David Magee (of “Life of Pi” and “Finding Neverland” fame) will be adapting the script, while Mark Gordon, C.S. Lewis’ stepson Douglas Gresham, Vincent Sieber, and Melvin Adams are on as producers.

In speaking about Johnston, Gordon has nothing but praise for the director. He said, “Joe is a wonderful storyteller who is equally at home in the biggest franchises and the most intimate character pieces. Because C.S. Lewis’ story is iconic and epic, but also tender, personal, and emotional, he’s the perfect choice to bring ‘The Silver Chair’ to the screen.”

Based on C.S. Lewis’ original novel of the same name, “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair” sees Eustace Scrubb, the cousin to the Pevensie children, on a journey to save the kidnapped child of Prince Caspian.

The author’s 7-novel series was first adapted for film with “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” in 2005. The highly-successful film was followed by “Prince Caspian” in 2008 and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” in 2010. The 3 films have raked in nearly USD1.6 billion worldwide.

It was previously reported that The Mark Gordon Company will be resetting the franchise with a new set of cast. “It’s all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original character, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from,” he said.
