Upon the release, Pharrell said:
The Superstar is such an iconic shoe and one that has lasted for such a long time, so I felt maybe I would do something I hadn’t seen before. I chose 50 different colors of Superstars – tone on tones. When you do 50 colors scattered all over the world, the natural thing is to connect with people – that excites me.

He added:
Supercolor is a celebration of equality through diversity. With 50 colours of the Superstar, everybody will be able to select his or her colour. It is more diverse than any pack ever before and therefore it is more individual than any pack ever before With every shoe treated exactly the same, all colours are equal. Done in premium leather, the Superstar Supercolor will be available in Kuala Lumpur from 20th March 2015 onwards in 11 color variants
