Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios could announce a theatrical re-release for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, sending Tom Holland’s web-slinger back to the big screen with an extended cut featuring previously unseen footage. The rumor comes directly on the heels of the film’s massive original run, which accumulated $2.5 billion worldwide to become the highest-grossing release of the year.

The revised version might include Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple in previously removed cameo sequences. Beyond Dawson’s reintegration, new theatrical content might offer viewers more surprises. Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo are among the ensemble cast members led by Tom Holland and Zendaya.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, follows Peter Parker as he battles criminals in a world that has forgotten about him. Throughout the story, a strong and unseen new evil confronts a solitary vigilante. The project was produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor. David Cain and Louis D’Esposito, executive producers, complete the film’s executive crew.

The film, which is already the highest-grossing movie in US domestic history, is on the verge of a historic financial success. According to data from September 28, the movie is about $50 million USD away from becoming the first movie to make $1 billion in the US alone. In order to cover this last financial gap and boost ticket sales, Sony is strategically utilizing the extended version of Spider-Man: Brand New Day following the success of Marvel’s forst re-release of Avengers: Endgame Encore in the build up for Avengers: Doomsday. By releasing fresh video, the studio can take advantage of viewer interest to reach a previously unreached domestic audience.
