We’ve heard of idols dating and cheating – but rarely do they happen within the same idol group. Recently, Chinese girl group SNH48 and GNZ48 became a hot topic amongst netizens after three members – Shen XiaoAi (沈小爱), Lu XinYi (芦馨怡) and Wang YuChen (王语晨) – were caught in a love triangle.
It all started when Shen XiaoAi posted a lengthy expose revealing she had a two-year-long romantic relationship with an unnamed person. While the 28-year-old never mentioned names, many fans quickly identified the person as Lu XinYi due to the “Best Partner” reference. The “Best Partner” is a competition within SNH48 where two members partner up to perform a duet. XiaoAi and Xinyi had been partners for the last two years but partnered with different members in 2024 due to repeated arguments.
However, this is supposedly the start of XinYi’s infidelity with her new partner, GNZ48’s Wang YuChen. XiaoAi mentioned the girls began getting closer and even sported “couple items”. YuChen initially had suspicions about XinYi and XiaoAi, even asking the former about their relationship, to which she would say the two were merely friends. The two partners got closer, which made XiaoAi jealous and led to her getting into an argument with XinYi, eventually breaking up with her.
The two did try to patch things together after some time – but the reconciliation failed after XiaoAi discovered chat messages between XinYi and YuChen. The idol alleged that the 23-year-old and the 22-year-old had been in an “emotional affair” for a while due to their romantic interactions. XiaoAi even said there were more instances of XinYi blowing her off to spend time with YuChen.
Following the allegations, XinYi reportedly revealed her side of the story. According to the post, the idol denies the affair, clarifying that her close relationship with YuChen was merely for work. However, XiaoAi then refuted the claims, saying she had more proof that the two did have an affair.
It’s important to note that this entire issue remains as mere allegations. However, it’s unlikely that SNH48’s management would comment on the matter.
