Recently, the K-pop industry went wild after the media reported rumours of TWICE (트와이스) leader Jihyo (지효) being in a relationship with Olympic gold medalist Yun Sungbin (윤성빈). Since then, TWICE fans have been trying to dig up more details about the athlete their idol may be seeing.
Besides being a world-renowned skeleton racer, Sungbin is also known for his appearance on the hit Netflix show, ‘Physical: 100’, where he showed off more of his athleticism. The 30-year-old has also appeared on several South Korean programs, including ‘Running Man’ and ‘I Live Alone’. He was also on the variety program, ‘Star of Star Girls’ with female idols Chuu (츄), Yuqi (우기) of (G)I-DLE ((여자)아이들) and Tsuki (츠키) of Billlie (빌리).
Interestingly, the show ‘Star of Star Girls’ is where many K-pop fans seemed to have recognised the athlete. As it turns out, Sungbin once battled Tsuki in a wall sitting challenge where the two competed to see who could hold the pose longer. The two even placed weighted balls on their thighs while doing the exercise, adding more difficulty to the challenge. Despite being an Olympian with impressive strength, Sungbin surprisingly lost to the girl group member. The unexpected moment went viral when the episode premiered last December.
That wasn’t the only interaction Sungbin had with female idols because he also guest starred twice on LE SSERAFIM (르세라핌) Sakura’s (사쿠라) web series, ‘Fearless Kkura’. In his second episode, the Japanese-born idol teased him for choosing groupmate Kazuha (카즈하) as his favourite member, supposedly due to her fitting his ideal type. However, Sakura still kindly gifted him with an autographed LE SSERAFIM album with a written letter from Kazuha.
Both scenes resurfaced on social media after news outlets reported that the athlete was dating Jihyo. Some fans have also noted that both guest appearances showed off his fun personality and kind treatment towards women, leading many to say that Jihyo picked well.
As of now, both sides have yet to confirm the dating rumours – but whatever may be, we wish them both lots of happiness.
