Singer Eric Nam Silently Cancels Malaysian Tour Stop Following Backlash From Fans

Too bad (or not?), Nam Nation – it looks like Eric Nam (에릭남) won’t be coming to Malaysia after all. Earlier this month, K-Pop soloist Eric Nam announced the stops for his upcoming ‘House On A Hill’ tour, which previously included Malaysia.

However, some local K-pop fans weren’t so welcoming of the news because the soloist had previously liked an Instagram post. The post by Jordan C. Brown-Underwood (American TV star Colton Underwood’s husband) was related to the Palestine-Israel war but had pro-Israel connotations.

The “like” had many fans believing the singer was also pro-Israel, which led to a major backlash by Malaysians, who are majority pro-Palestine. Eric’s agency, EN Management, did not comment on the backlash even after releasing an updated list of stops for the ‘House On A Hill’ tour. Now, Malaysia is nowhere on the list.

While Eric and his team did not share the reason for the change, fans suspect it was because of the intense backlash he faced. K-pop fans, both local and international, shared mixed views over the announcement. While some fans were saddened by the cancellation, some also condemned those who “bullied” him into cancelling the date, saying that liking the post doesn’t reflect his views.

However, many pointed out that the immediate cancellation proved his stance because he would rather cancel a concert than defend himself. One local fan even said his silence already suggested his political views.

What do you think about the sudden cancellation? Do you think it was the right move? Or are fans right to believe that it proves his political stance?
