Celebrities are often the subject of outrageous rumours, but no one expects to be part of a death hoax. Recently, Mandopop icon Show Lo (羅志祥) had to clear the air about allegations that he had passed away.
Earlier this week, rumours that the Taiwanese singer had died at his home went viral on Chinese social media. The allegations reportedly stemmed from a Douyin post that claimed Show’s manager found him unresponsive at his residence and doctors later pronounced the singer dead. The post also featured a false statement confirming his death, sparking panic among his fans.

Thankfully, the singer’s team were quick to dispel the rumours. In a statement to the media, Show’s manager mentioned that the singer “went to play golf this morning”. While the comment was simple, it indirectly confirmed that the 46-year-old is alive and well. Show also put the death hoax to rest.
Shortly after his manager’s statement, the singer shared an update through his Instagram Stories. The photo is a selfie of the star, seemingly taken at a golf course. Despite not having any captions alluding to the recent allegations, it’s apparent that the photo is Show’s way of shutting down the death rumours.

Netizens would later revisit the source of the death allegations, only to discover that the individual behind the hoax had previously spread similar false information on multiple occasions. This revelation led to widespread criticism, with some netizens even calling for Douyin to de-platform such irresponsible accounts.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a celebrity faced a death hoax. Perhaps the authorities should take action against those who share or start such horrible claims.
