It has been eight years since SHINee (샤이니) member Jonghyun (종현) passed away. Fans, friends, and fellow idols mourned after news emerged about his passing. His death remains one of the most tragic moments in the K-pop industry, sparking greater conversations about mental health and inspiring the creation of the Shiny Foundation, which supports young artists.
On the anniversary of his death, 18th December, fans paid tribute to the late singer by playing his music and sharing their favourite moments of him on social media. His bandmates, of course, continue to remember him as an important presence in their lives. Minho (최민호) honoured his hyung by sharing a photo of him on Instagram.

Yesterday (Thursday, 18th December), the official SHINee Instagram page shared a photo of Jonghyun with the caption: “We will always love you”, in remembrance of the anniversary of his passing. Member Choi Minho also posted a more personal photo of the late singer, possibly taken during one of their rehearsals in SM Entertainment’s old practice room, on his Instagram Story.
From his captions, it appears Minho visited Jonghyun’s grave earlier in the day before returning home. “On my way back from seeing hyung again today. I miss you so much… You’re doing well, right? Yeah, I’m doing well too!!! Thank you, and sorry. You are always with us,” he wrote. His post was subsequently reshared on social media, quickly going viral among SHINee fans who were still mourning the loss of the member alongside the K-pop star.

Many commented that their own pain at losing Jonghyun pales in comparison to that of SHINee, who not only lost a team member but also a dear friend and chosen family member. Some recalled the time Key mentioned he was running out of photos of Jonghyun to share on his birthday. Grief is truly a testament to the love people share. No matter how much time passes, the pain and longing remain.
As beautifully expressed in Marvel’s WandaVision: “What is grief, if not love persevering?” SHINee’s Jonghyun will forever live on in the hearts and memories of his loved ones and fans.
