It’s always great when you pay less than expected for something. However, a wrong bill can cost someone else their job. Luckily for this particular hotpot restaurant staff, a Singaporean family were honest enough to come clean about their bill!

A family in Singapore had just finished a lovely dinner and paid for their bill when they realised something was wrong. Instead of paying over $100 for their meal, they ended up paying just a little over $1. It was a good thing they questioned it as the mistake almost cost the restaurant staff, literally.

20-year-old Jesslyne Lee had apparently visited a popular hotpot chain restaurant on 13th May to celebrate Mother’s Day. After a nice dinner, Jesslyne had paid for the food with her credit card and the two were about to leave the restaurant when they realised something was wrong with the receipt.

According to the bill, the hotpot dinner had cost $105 (~RM358.52). But, according to Jesslyne’s credit card receipt, she had paid only $1.05 (~RM3.59) for the entire meal. Concerned about the glaring difference, the mother-daughter duo decided to inform the restaurant as they were worried the staff might get in trouble for it.

It’s a good thing they did too! “(The) staff (said): “Thank God you came back, otherwise it will be deducted from my pay,“” Jesslyne shared later in her TikTok video. “The staff used another (employee’s) account to settle (the bill) and almost got her into trouble.” Jesslyne added that they had received vouchers from the chain for the mistake, but was unsure whether the employee in question was reprimanded afterwards.

Netizens were amazed at Jesslyne and her mom’s honesty, with several taking the opportunity to thank and praise them. “Y’all are better humans than me,” one comment wryly stated. “I would have dipped and I would never go that that (restaurant) forever and would go to another branch,” another shared.

Well, kudos to Jesslyne and her mom for being so honest! It’s certainly restores our faith in humanity and gives us some hope for the day. And hopefully, the restaurant’s staff will be more careful while billing in the future. After all, there is a reason why Mathematic teachers tend to stress on the decimal point!
