SDCC: Marvel Announces 16 New Movies & Shows For MCU Phase 4

What a great weekend for superhero fans. That’s cause Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to grow even bigger than before.

Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation did not disappoint one bit. Upcoming new films and shows for MCU Phase 4 were announced, fan-favourites got their shinning moments, and here are all the new releases right up till 2022.

1. “Black Widow”

  • Release Date: 1st May 2020
  • Director: Cate Shortland
  • Cast: Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, Rachel Weisz
  • Villain: Taskmaster
  • Plot: To partially be set after the events of “Captain America: Civil War”

2. “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”

  • Streaming exclusively on Disney+
  • Cast: Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and Daniel Brühl
  • Fun fact: Anthony Mackie dropped a bombshell. He has already tried out his future Captain America suit in a secret fitting, saying, “It looks really good“.
  • Rooney Mara is reportedly playing Red Skull’s daughter “Sin”.

3. “The Eternals”

  • Director: Chloé Zhao
  • Cast: Angelina Jolie (Thena), Richard Madden (Icarus), Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Lia McHugh (Sprite), Don Lee (Gilgamesh)
  • Zhao on the movie: “It’s about this group of incredible immortals but through their journey we really get to explore what it means to be human and humanity on our time on this planet.”

4. “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”

  • Release Date: 12th February 2021
  • Director: Destin Daniel Cretton
  • Cast: Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Tony Leung

Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu recently found out that he got cast as the titular the martial arts master. “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will also star Tony Leung as the real Mandarin, not the fake one from “Iron Man 3”. Awkwafina has also been confirmed.

5. “WandaVision”

  • Release Date: Spring 2021
  • Streaming exclusively on Disney+
  • Cast: Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and Teyonah Parris

Teyonah Parris will portray the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau (the girl we saw in “Captain Marvel”.

“We’re going to have a lot of fun,” Olsen teased. “It’s going to get weird. We’re going to go deep, we’re going to have lots of surprises, and we’re going to finally understand Wanda Maximoff as the Scarlet Witch.”

“Last thing I knew, I died in Infinity War, so I literally have never been this confused in front of this many people in my whole life,” Bettany added.

6. “Loki”

  • Release Date: Spring 2021
  • Streaming exclusively on Disney+
  • Cast: Tom Hiddleston

The series will focus on the Loki who grab the Tesseract and vanished in “Avengers: Endgame”. “The question I get asked more than any other question in ‘Endgame’ was, where did Loki go, and what happened to Loki?” Kevin Feige said. “This series will answer where he went.”

7. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”

  • Director: Scott Derrickson
  • Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen
  • Villain: Nightmare

What business will Scarlet Witch have in the “Doctor Strange” sequel? Feige teased that the “WandaVision” series will play a role in the events here. As for the mystical doctor, Cumberbatch said that he’ll be “facing unexpected things. I think he’ll be in a position rather like the audience of not knowing what’s coming at him. There was a lot of authority I thought in the ‘Avengers’ iterations (of Strange), so we’re going back to kind of destroy him, I think.”

8. “What If …?”

  • Cast: Will feature many of the MCU stars
  • Fun fact: Jeffrey Wright will voice The Watcher in this animated series that explores alternate Marvel stories.

9. “Hawkeye”

Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton will be showing a young Kate Bishop the ropes on taking on the Hawkeye mantle.

10. “Thor: Love and Thunder”

  • Release Date: 5th November 2021
  • Director: Taika Waititi
  • Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman

The 4th “Thor” film will introduce a female Thor. Natalie Portman will be reprising her role as Jane Foster, who in the comics, take on the role of an Asgardian god. Valkyrie’s arc will also see her “seeking out a Queen to rule alongside her in New Asgard”.
