Here in Malaysia, scam stories are nothing new because we hear about a new one at least once a week. Because of that, many netizens believe that people should know better than to fall for online scams – which is what they’re saying to this scam victim.

Twitter user @/faizah_halwa recently shared her experience of being scammed by an Instagram account claiming to sell gold for a suspiciously low price. In her tweet, she warns netizens against buying gold from an online platform unless it is from a trusted store on Shopee, Lazada, or TikTok. Along with the caption, she shared a few images of her conversations with several contacts, believed to be the owners of the Instagram account.

The photos also showed an image of a police report, which says the victim got cheated a total of RM15,400 after making seven payments to four bank accounts. The report also said that the scam victim initially wanted to purchase only two gold bangles worth RM400. In a separate tweet, she also asked for help from netizens on how to get back the money she lost.

Despite sharing her terrible experience, many netizens were not sympathetic towards Faizah because they felt that it was her fault that she got scammed. Many pointed out that many Instagram “stores” are known to have scammed people in the past, so she shouldn’t have trusted the account in the first place. There are a few that hope she can get at least a portion of her money back but still feel that she’s the one to blame for losing her money.

We hope Faizah does get her money back – but we also hope she does research before willingly transferring large amounts of money without question.
