What was supposed to be a celebration resulted in some disappointing news. Earlier this week, Hong Kong star Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文) made the devastating announcement that she’s postponing her upcoming concert at Kai Tak Stadium just a few days before opening night.
Sammi was scheduled to perform at Kai Tak Stadium from 10th to 12th July 2026 (Friday to Sunday), as the finale for her “You and Mi” Asia tour. The singer has been diligently preparing for her performance, sharing glimpses of the rehearsals through her Instagram account. Unfortunately, on 6th July 2026 (Monday), the concert’s organiser, Media Asia Entertainment, announced that they were postponing the concert, four days before the opening night.

The organiser explained the postponement, saying that a critical component of the stage had malfunctioned during one of the rehearsal sessions. Media Asia Entertainment also said that the production crew had attempted to fix the malfunction, but couldn’t guarantee the quality of the repair. Given that the malfunction had created potential safety risks, the organiser decided to delay the concert to prioritise the safety of the performers and the crowd.
Sammi has also spoken up about the last-minute postponement, saying she received the news just a day before the public announcement. The singer said that she was also shocked and disappointed over the news, noting that her team had been working hard to prepare for the opening night. She also expressed concern for the fans, particularly those who have travelled to see her, acknowledging all the financial and emotional investment for the show.
Thankfully, the singer has worked out an alternative experience for fans who had tickets to the concert. After discussing with her management, Sammi decided to use Kai Tak Stadium for three complimentary fan appreciation events. Each session will last around 90 minutes and will take place on the original concert dates. The organiser said that ticket holders can use their original concert tickets to attend the event according to their assigned seats.

Sammi said the decision to hold a free concert is to show her sincere appreciation for her fans, and isn’t a replacement for the actual show. The organiser has also advised fans to keep their concert tickets after the appreciation event, as it will remain valid for the rescheduled concerts on the new dates. Fans have reacted to the move, praising Sammi, her team and the organiser’s handling of the postponement and the free event.
Postponing a concert is never an easy decision. However, we applaud Sammi and her team for coming up with an alternative for the fans. We hope everything will go smoothly for the singer, including the rescheduled concert.
