Honestly, who hasn’t heard of Disney? Purveyors of classic films and fun shows filled with iconic characters, the company is synonymous with childhood memories of (mostly) cartoons, both on TV and in theatres.
But in recent years, many have assumed that the Mouse & Co. is no longer interested in creating new and original films, let alone animated ones, as they’ve invested more and more resources to create live-action remakes almost every other year.
But animators and cartoon lovers have reason to cheer now, because Disney is set to provide us with new animated originals, ranging from familiar sequels all the way to something new and original.
As the title of this article states, The Incredibles and Finding Nemo – two of among Disney’s biggest animated hits – are reportedly likely to receive their third instalments. Obviously, nothing is set in stone just yet, but we can remain positive, as we’ve seen several leaks become reality.
The news dropped when Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar addressed the question of future movies. According to DisInsider, the companies plan to do a mixture of original film and not just sequels. Not much else is known, but rumours suggest that we are more likely to see The Incredibles 3 first, as it’s said to be already in development, with some speculating a late 2020’s release date.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in 2018, the film’s director, Brad Bird, mentioned that the team had to scrap a lot of plot points due to the shortened and hectic production schedule of the second film.
“We storyboarded, and we designed characters, and they’re really good! Some of them were really funny and cool and explored certain things…” – Brad Bird, Director of The Incredibles.
This longer wait time is perhaps the best way to give the hardworking animators a much-needed break, as well as letting them finalise the script before rushing the film out the door.
Unfortunately, we know less about “Finding Nemo 3,” besides the fact that it might already be in production.
