If you’ve been to Genting Highlands, you’re probably familiar with the prices of the food they have up there – which are undeniably steeper than other restaurants in the country. However, are the prices justifiable because of the location?

In a tweet shared by MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL, the account complained about the price for a simple order of two pieces of roti canai, which cost him RM9 each. In the captions, the user wrote, “Plain roti canai (is) RM9 each. Why is it automatically more expensive when at Genting Highlands? Can the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living take action on issues like this?”.

The tweet also included an image of the order receipt, which shows the cost of a roti telur and plain nasi lemak, which were RM11 and RM10 respectively. The total bill costs RM45 for three dishes and two add-ons, believed to be drinks. According to the receipt, the restaurant in question is The Lobby Cafe, located at the First World Hotel Lobby at Resorts World Genting.

The tweet garnered attention from netizens who shared mixed responses to the bill. While some were shocked at the price, others say the price is the standard for Genting Highlands. Many even said that people shouldn’t expect “mamak prices” when they visit the tourist spot; nor should they complain as it’s common knowledge that food costs more there. However, some also argued that the high cost of food at local tourist spots is why more Malaysians prefer to enjoy their holidays in nearby countries like Bangkok.
