Just yesterday (10th April), it was revealed that legendary Hong Kong actor and comedian Richard Ng (吳耀漢) had passed away. His passing devastated many, including his son, actor and model Carl Ng (吳嘉龍).
Carl and Richard have always been close, the duo even appearing together in several films. In fact, Richard has always been on Carl’s side. One especially momentous occasion was surprisingly when Carl was turned down by his Malaysian girlfriend’s parents!
Carl is Richard Ng’s third child, and reportedly the only one to follow his father’s footsteps into the entertainment industry. Despite his multiple roles in various films, Carl never quite managed to catch a break in his career. Unfortunately, this supposedly affected his love life.
In 2018, Carl reportedly wanted to marry his Malaysian girlfriend. At the time, they had already been together for five years and it seems Carl was ready to spend the rest of his life with her. To his surprise, her parents were the one to turn him down. Their reasoning was that he had no car, no house and no money. Apparently, they saw this as a sign that he was not financially capable.
The criticism supposedly rankled Richard Ng. As he reportedly complained: “They (were) waiting for my son to prosper.” Richard explained he understood a parent’s desire to have the best for their children. But he also added, “Even if all these conditions (were) right, I might not choose your daughter!” The actor added his line of thinking was because he was more westernized and not in any hurry for a daughter-in-law.
Carl and Richard were a well-known father-son duo. The 47-year-old was often seen accompanying his dad to the hospital for his dialysis last September. Carl also once shared that his dad was his role model in life. “He always put family first,” Carl stated. “Many people think he’s funny. But in private, he’s very serious.”
Well, we can certainly understand Carl’s relationship problems. But as it turns out, he wasn’t the only one who had bumps in his romance life. Richard Ng too once married for sex before settling with his wife Susan! Still, we hope Carl will eventually find someone, just like how his dad found his mom.
