Tragedy struck at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station yesterday (Tuesday, 3rd June 2025) when a man was killed after falling onto the train tracks. The shocking incident happened in the evening, causing service disruption throughout the Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT line.

According to news outlets, the victim was a Taiwanese man in his 60s. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at about 6:05pm. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene as the operations team was assisting in removing him from the track. Additional details on the incident are unknown, but investigations are underway. News outlets have reported no witnesses to the incident.

Later in the evening, RapidKL released a statement expressing deep regret over the incident. The company said it’s fully cooperating with authorities and the Taiwanese embassy to support the victim’s next of kin. RapidKL also confirmed that LRT services resumed operations by 9pm last night. Ending the statement, the company apologised for the inconvenience caused by the incident, adding that passenger safety remains its top priority.

This tragedy follows another incident in February 2025, when a blind man died after falling onto the train tracks at the Titiwangsa LRT station. Following the February incident, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that the ministry will look into improving the safety features at LRT stations. The minister mentioned installing smart CCTVs to detect risky behaviour and Platform Screen Doors on all LRT routes.

Netizens have reacted to the most recent tragedy, sending condolences to the victim’s family. However, the incident also sparked outrage towards the Ministry of Transport for not upholding safety measures at LRT stations, including installing protective screen doors as promised. Some lamented the crowd at stations, especially during peak hours, noting that such incidents may happen again if the platforms get too packed.

As of writing, the ministry and Anthony Loke have yet to release a statement on the incident. We extend our condolences to the victim and his loved ones. What are your thoughts on this?
