Rado Brings a Colour-Changing Dial to the True Round Open Heart

Rado is delighted to introduce its new limited-edition True Round Open Heart, a captivating timepiece that demonstrates just how elegant and innovative mechanical watchmaking can be.

The dial features a scintillating photochromatic effect: exposure to ultra-violet light transforms its pale rose colour into a vibrant magenta. The pale rose hue matches that of the case and bracelet, both crafted in high-tech ceramic, Rado’s signature material.

The characteristic Open Heart cutaway dial presents the number 8, often thought to bring good luck – all the more reason to produce a strictly limited number of pieces – 888. In a closer look from a different angle, the openwork dial reveals the beating heart of the watch through a symbol for infinity, uniquely expressive of both passing time and an eternal present.

This True Round Open Heart Limited Edition combines lucky numbers with innovative technology and convincing aesthetics in a charming manner, appealing to anyone drawn to distinctive and fashionable design. The pale rose sunray dial features a scintillating photochromatic effect, shifting from rose to magenta as the light changes.

The polished rose-coloured bracelet and monobloc case are in pale rose high-techceramic, and the titanium case back features a special engraving: LIMITED EDITION, ONE OUT OF 888.

Powered by Rado’s own R734 automatic movement, the new timepiece is both a mechanical wonder and a compelling expression of the art of watchmaking. Fitted with an antimagnetic Nivachron™ hairspring, the watch has a power reserve of 80 hours, and is water-resistant to 5 bar (50 metres). This Limited Edition comes in special packaging together with a limited-edition certificate.

Signature innovation in high-tech materials

High-tech ceramic truly embodies Rado’s experience and status as Master of Materials. Not only is it a material of astonishing durability, with remarkable scratch-resistant characteristics, but it is also beautifully light and silky to the touch, with the ability to quickly match the wearer’s body temperature, so it feels like an extension of themselves. No wonder we like to say “Feel it!”

Rado

High-tech ceramic was first introduced by Rado in 1986 following extensive research and development, and can only be produced under exacting conditions.

The process starts with extremely pure and finely calibrated mineral powders of zirconium oxide, which are mixed with a specially developed plastic carrier medium and injected into precision moulds at pressures of around 1,000 bar.

The moulds are heated, then allowed to cool and the plastic carrier agent dissolved chemically. The ceramic forms are then heated again, this time to 1,450°C. This precisely controlled sintering stage causes powdered particles to fuse together, resulting in a density and hardness that far exceeds regular ceramic. The reward is a material that stands at 1,250 on the Vickers scale and which can be machined and finished, using diamond tools, ready to be assembled into a Rado timepiece.
