Since many are always on the lookout for higher paying jobs regardless of the position, working retail for a maximum wage of RM7,000 does seem tempting – but can Malaysians look past all the hard work just for a higher salary?

In a post shared by Twitter user @/meinmokthar, an anonymous person was wondering why locals aren’t interested in working at local fashion retail chain Brands Outlet. According to the post, the job comes with a surprisingly high salary of roughly RM3,200, after accounting for the employee’s contribution to their Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation Scheme (SOCSO). The post also added that the salary can go up to RM7,000 for those working at busier outlets.

While many former Brands Outlet employees confirmed the salary range, they also clarified that the job has more cons than pros. According to the former employees, working at Brands Outlet meant a heavy workload and long working hours. One former employee said that employees spend most of their time folding clothes, arranging stock and dealing with customers. They also mention that apart from a 12-hour shift, employees only get one day off.

Some also said those interested should have a higher mental and physical capacity to work in retail. Former employees said they barely had time for themselves and their families when they worked at Brands Outlet. Some netizens also said getting hired at Brands Outlets isn’t easy either, as the store tends to hire attractive candidates or ones that dress well.

Of course, all jobs have pros and cons – but could you accept all these cons if it meant getting RM7,000 a month?
