Port Dickson Beaches To Ban “Blue Tents” Starting November

Port Dickson is known for its beautiful beaches, with warm breezes that make us want to stay there forever. Yet, in recent months, the wonderful seashores have been flooded with blue tent rentals, blocking the amazing scenery and creating an eyesore for visitors.

Thankfully, action will be taken against these blue tents. It was established earlier of this year that tent rentals at the coast’s three main beaches, Pantai Teluk Kemang, Pantai Tanjung Biru and Pantai Cermin, were to be stopped immediately – but not much change was seen. The Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) has since stand its ground and, on 26th October, publicly ordered all canopy rental businesses to end by 18th November 2024.

Since the start of the “rental blue tents” trend in Port Dickson beaches, visitors have complained that the huge canopies blocked their view and are an atrocity to look at. The MPPD have been over this topic many times, with them coming to site illegal rentals before. Yet, they always seem to get out of hand quickly.

However, from now onwards, the council will immediately site and seize any tents illegally placed. Adding on, business owners are not allowed to start a different form of commerce. If business owners disobey the law, action will be appropriated, following Section 46 of the Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974 (Act 133). Although all these new laws will be in action soon, the future of Port Dickson business owners won’t be left in the dark.

It was discussed that canopy owners may have an opportunity to re-open their business but with stricter rules and possibly a different type of tent. Let’s hope these changes will bring more people to visit the beautiful Port Dickson.
