Hennessy, the world-renowned cognac house, proudly presents its latest addition to the Master Blender’s Selection series – Master Blender’s Selection No. 5. Following a three-year hiatus since the last release, this limited-edition blend is a tribute to the artistry of exclusive distillers, showcasing a selection of eaux-de-vie that capture distinct moments in time. The Master Blender’s Selection No. 5 continues the tradition of craftsmanship and innovation under the expertise of Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, 8th Generation Master Blender at Hennessy.
This latest addition to the Master Blender’s Selection series follows the success of its predecessors, with the first release, Master Blender’s Selection No. 1, debuting in 2016. Since then, only four of these innovative small-batch blends have been created, with the latest, No. 4, introduced in 2021. Master Blender’s Selection No. 5 is a result of tradition, innovation, and expertise, curated by Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, who continues to uphold the legacy of cognac-making excellence.
The Master Blender’s Selection series is renowned for its unique blends, which are never to be replicated. This limited edition celebrates the dedication and skill of 18 exceptional distillers whose expertise enhances the wines’ aromas, concentrating them in the heart of the selected eaux-de-vie chosen by Renaud for their exceptional qualities.
Renaud Fillioux de Gironde remarked, “I wanted to pay tribute to the artisans behind the scenes – exclusive Hennessy distillers who are experts and share with us, year after year, first-rate eaux-de-vie remarkable for their purity, finesse, and potential.
“As the 8th generation Master Blender, it’s an immense honour to continue the craft my uncle Yann Fillioux passed down. With Master Blender’s Selection No. 5, I opted for an innovative single-batch blend that will never be replicated – a celebration of the collaborative spirit and expertise in the world of Cognac,” he further added.
Crafting Master Blender’s Selection No. 5 involves an unparalleled selection process of eaux-de-vie, followed by a maturation period of at least seven years in French oak barrels, resulting in its complex aroma. Renaud has combined eaux-de-vie from these 18 unique families of distillers, merging their characteristics and personalities to create an unparalleled cognac. On the nose, it offers spice and candied orange notes, leading to a smooth palate with hints of cocoa, sweet spices, and a creamy texture, followed by nuances of light tobacco and candied orange. It can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or with family and friends. Master Blender’s Selection is Hennessy’s only cognac bottled at 43% ABV.
