The Perak-state Government is in the process of designing a programme that focuses on the emotional management aspects of mothers who are experiencing ‘burnout’ or exhaustion.
The Chairman of the Perak Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed shared that this step was taken in light of data obtained through a study conducted by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

“Mothers in Perak who experience burnout may be due to factors such as working while at the same time, playing the role of a mother,”
“The feeling of guilt of not being able to fulfil all responsibilities may be a factor in their burnout. This view is somewhat supported by the research we conducted,” she said.
Mothers are important for development
In regards to this, Datuk Salbiah revealed that the Perak-state Government is looking at partnering with entities including NGOs to create programmes on emotional management and more, in addition to Naungan Kasih, a family strengthening programme that uses digital tools, in-person sessions and remote support to help parents nurture their children’s development and wellbeing.

“That is what we are trying to do because when these mothers are well cared for emotionally and physically, we can reduce the social problems in the state of Perak. It will also enable us to develop Perak according to the mould we want to shape,” she added.
She went on to explain that mothers are the heart that generates development in the state, therefore mothers should be valued by all parties.
“Without the upbringing of a mother who educates her children, how is it possible for Perak to develop well?”
