We can all agree that when Malaysians want to gather, they do it over food. Be it brunch, tea or supper, for Malaysians, a meet-up with loved ones or friends is not complete without something delicious to munch on.
With this in mind, we’ve put together an epic foodie list of superb dining establishments at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, in conjunction with the Pavilion Taste campaign, which runs from now until 13th November. Featuring every gastronomic delight under the sun, Pavilion Bukit Jalil’s food outlets are a gift to gourmands – we can vouch for this, as we recently sampled the wide range of dishes on offer throughout the campaign:
Halal & Muslim-Friendly Haven
Pavilion Bukit Jalil is home to some great halal and Muslim-friendly choices (with over 40 options) that are perfect for everyone.
First, we checked out a popular ramen spot: Kagura Ramen. What’s special here is that you get to choose from six different broths – and various other rich broths too. There are several different soup bases and components available – we went with the rich, white ramen. To be honest, the chicken essence was so strong that it felt like we were having chicken soup! But the taste was simply amazing. It had that creaminess and richness we were expecting. The ramen was also perfectly cooked, making the dish warm and hearty.
Next, we made a quick stop at Fuji Sushi for their chawanmushi (steamed egg custard). Unlike many other custards, it’s usually eaten as a dish in a meal, as chawanmushi contains savory rather than sweet ingredients. One look and we thought it was dessert (more like tau fu fah!). But this warm and hearty egg custard has a burst of flavour – and we absolutely loved it.
Next, we headed to BBQ Town for mouth-watering, all-you-can-eat barbeque. The buffet-style restaurant combines the flavours of a good barbeque with shabu-shabu, and offers unlimited Australian beef, lamb, chicken and prawn, sushi, and vegetables. To kick things off, we dug into the six-hour-long kombu chicken soup and complimentary fried chicken starters, to get our appetites going.
Besides these two outlets, you can also check out everyone’s favourite Kyochon 1991 for the best Korean fried chicken, with a choice of red pepper or garlic flavours to choose from; and another all-you-can-eat buffet at Suki-Ya and MoMo Paradise (non-halal).
Just Desserts
You don’t have to wait to have this as an after-dinner dessert, as it makes for a good tea-time snack!
We checked out The Grass for a taste of their Signature Grass Jelly Iced Dessert. Since 1961, the family behind the brand has been manufacturing grass for three generations. Herbs are boiled for 8 hours and herbal juice is used to make the grass jelly, which is served as desserts or beverages.
The grass jelly was definitely of another class, with its superior taste and texture. It had more of an earthy and herb-y flavour, and paired so well with the desserts. Some of what we tried were Mango Milky Iced Dessert, Coconut Cendol Iced Dessert, Signature Pure Grass Jelly Dessert, Hot Grass Jelly and Hot Glutinous Rice.
But that’s not all. If you’re a cake lover, then your should definitely stop by Bean Jr Australian Cake House for some fresh and mouth-watering cakes. This brand is a combination of two brands under one roof – Bean Jr specializes in soy dessert such as soya milk, soy tofu and soy bingsu, but they’re also big on delicious cakes. Some of the delights that we tried were the Red Velvet and Belcolade (a rich and decadent chocolate cake). Both were super good and wonderfully rich.
For freshly-baked buns and pastries, we headed to Buns by Mel at The Food Merchant, and got to bring home assorted buns and pastries that were all freshly-baked!
So all in all, we had a magnificent and memorable experience hopping between Pavilion Bukit Jalil’s excellent eateries.
Oh – and if the above aren’t enough to tempt you, then know this: Pavilion Bukit Jalil is giving away 50 of your favourite items from various restaurants, every week day. Check out their social media for more information on the giveaways, which are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis, from now until 13th November!
